Martina from The Art of Your Travel has put together some recommendations for places get a bite to eat and a pint of pilsner. Traditional Czech food consists of a lot of chicken, pork or beef (yes, lots of meat) as the main, accompanied by dumplings and goulash. Be sure to try the Czech favorite Svičková (read “svitch-co-va”) or Rajská (read “raiska”), a somehow interesting combination of meat with sauce and whipped cream.

U Provaznice ( The Rope Maker’s Wife)- Provaznika 3, Prague 1

This traditional Czech eatery is named after a legend of a beautiful woman who was strangled by her husband after he heard that his wife was serving more then pivo at her pub. Legend has it that her ghost is always present at U Provaznice, apparently she is cursed to stay around until she helps everyone who is suffering for love. To help her out, if you are suffering from love, touch the portrait of the rope maker’s wife and your luck will change.

Strahov Monastic Brewery and Restaurant- Strahovské nádvoří 301, Prague 1

The Strahov Monastic Brewery is located close by to the Prague Castle in the building of the Strahov Monastery, which was founded by King Vladislav II in 1142. After extensive and complex restorations completed just three years ago the updated building has a brewery, restaurant and beer garden. Try the Brewery Goulash for 99CZK and wash it down with a pint of St. Norbert Holy Beer for 59CZK and you have had lunch for under $10.

U Fleku- Křemencova 11, Prague 1

Founded in 1499, U Flecku is an eclectic and well put together temple dedicated to the Czech beer experience. If this is not enough then no worries because U Flecku offers Cabaret for 100CZK.

Staroměstská Restaurant- Staroměstské náměstí 19, Prague 1

Traditional Czech restaurant located in the heart of the Old Town Square near the astrological clock. Important note: this restaurant offers different prices in the heated beer garden in the winter and the summer beer garden. Be prepared to pay double for sitting in the beer garden than sitting in the restaurant. A lot of people get frustrated by this but knowing beforehand that this practice in typical in such prime locations such as Old Town Square will help you to save money and keep from feeling ripped off.

Bon appetit, Na Zdravi and Happy Travels
