Australia Day 2008: Congrats Australians of the Year

January 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Good Day Travelers!

It’s January 26, 2008, so do you know what that means?  That’s right!  Australia Day it is.  The annual summer holiday is when four Australians of the Year are presented with glass trophies created by artist Kristin McFarlane.  The blue glass trophies, which take about a month each to make,  have Australian icons such as the Southern Cross, Australian Coastline and the words to the Australian National Anthem embodied within them.  Each trophy is a unique work of art because the recipients’ names are embedded in the trophy itself rather than etched on afterwards.

This year’s recpients include Country Music singer Lee Kernaghan (Australian of the Year) and 22 year-old motor bike racer Casey Stoner who was named Young Australian of the Year.

Of course, we realize we are not telling anyone in Australia anything new with this information, but iKangaroo wanted to take this opportunity to shout out to all the Aussies on the road- especially Dan- and wish them a Happy Australia Day!  For everyone else we thought that you would enjoy learning something about our neighbors down under.
Happy Travels,
