The Sex and the City movie is coming out on DVD so we wanted to recap some of the Paris action of Carrie going across the Atlantic to Paris to learn that she cannot live without her Mr. Big or her beloved NYC. The finale, although not as replete with recommendations as the movie, did provide a few Paris pics beyond the cliche cigarette smoking-no longer possible, inside anyways- and requisite dog excrement scene. Of course, there were plush hotels, swanky lounges, shopping, and Carrie was able to find a pastry shop to indulge herself. In the end, we will not yet know if the Paris reunion led to the happily ever after (there is talk of a SATC movie sequel) but it did provide memorable moments and worthwhile recommendations. Click through to follow Carrie around Paris and finally into Big’s arms.
Where Carrie stayed: The Hotel Plaza Athenee
What she said: To the receptionist, “A little slower se vous plait.” Receptionist, “Ah but of course, American?” Carrie, “New Yorker.”
Surprisingly this high class palace (in France there are a maximum of four stars given so the elite hotels call themselves palaces) exploited its SATC cameo by creating themed package that includes a Cosmo, a chocolate shoe made by their “World Champion” chef, and a shopping booklet that showcases the best shops on Ave. Montaigne and promises to get you VIP treatment.
Prices start at €800 and reach upwards of €4500 with the Royal Suite going for €18,000 per night, which includes the use of the Masarati. However, be forewarned that these prices do not include the city tax or breakfast.
Where she shopped: Dior
What she said: “I decided that the more I purchased the less they would think of me as the woman who fell in Dior.”
Remember the scene? Carrie trips into Dior and then goes on a bit of a shopping spree. There are a few Dior stores located around Paris but we mapped out the one closest to the hotel for convenience sake. Unless you have the Masarati, which you might want to try some other locations to get that moneys’ worth.
Where she lunched: Kong
What she said: Carrie voice over, “After two weeks in Paris it was time for the ultimate in sophisticated French fare, meeting your lover and his ex-wife for lunch.”
Overlooking Paris, Kong has a spectacular view. They have a decent happy hour which will get you cocktails for under €12.00, but the food is generally ranked as a must miss. So, view and drinks, YES. Food, NO. Pretty sure that Carrie lost her appetite after being stood up by her over and meeting his generally disagreeable ex-wife.
Where she snacked: Laduree
What she said: Nothing really, but she fed a dog a nice and probably pretty expensive piece of cake.
There are three locations in Paris and all have the same signature macaroons which I have to say, the vanilla are my favorite. Indulgences at this place run are gonna cost you as the half-dollar / €2 coin sized macaroons cost €1.50 each.
Where Carrie kissed Mr. Big
The La Pasarella des Arts, which consequently is almost 3 kilometers or 2 miles from the hotel.
What they said, Mr. Big, “Carrie you’re the one”, Carrie, “oh kiss me you Big crybaby.”
And they lived happily ever after? Make sure you check in for part deux (two) for a map of the hot spots when they return to NYC for the big nuptuals.
Thanks for reading.
