A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tour has all the right ingredients: enthusiastic native Brooklyn tour guides, pizza, culture and history and loads of movie trivia. Besides stopping at two Brooklyn pizzerias (2 slices, per stop, and soft drinks are included in the price- beer and or wine is extra), the tour covers The Brooklyn Bridge, Coney Island, Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and many others. But, it’s not what you see on this tour but how you see it. The in-bus video system is full of movie clips that are played when the bus is perfectly aligned with backdrops from movie scenes such as the opening scene of Saturday Night Fever, The French Connection car chase, Joe Pesci’s getting whacked in Goodfellas and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge scene from Once Upon a Time in America. Our tour guide, Paula, who is in the owner’s family delivered just enough information, much of it an insider’s view without droning on and on as other tours so often do.
The tour meets weekdays at 11:00 and lasts 4.5 hours; advanced reservations are necessary. At $75 for adults, $65 for children under 12 the price is in line with other NYC tours; however, when you consider the included pizza and the opportunity to get off the beaten path then the price is actually a bargain.
A Slice of Brooklyn Tour is easily on of the best tours I have been on. It is a unique opportunity for tourists to appreciate Brooklyn and all it has to offer while escaping the hustle and bustle of Manhattan for an afternoon. A Slice of Brooklyn: Pizza Tour, don’t Forgetaboutit!
